Backup

A second copy of valued files, kept incase the originals are damaged.

Basic Skills

Literacy and Numeracy. (We don't like to call them Maths and English!)

This is a general term for your level of reading and writing. Workshops take place regularly if you want to improve. You could also progress onto the Essential Skills qualifications if you wanted a certificate in these skills.

Blog

A blog is an abbreviation of "web log" and originally they started out as a sort of online diary. Nowadays they are used for much more and many businesses use them to communicate with their customers.

You will use blogs for many purposes while at ITeC while at ITeC

Later in the course you will probably also create a blog of your own as part of your ICT Essential Skills project.

Blu-ray

A type of optical disk used to store up to 50GB of files.

Boot

Starting up a PC after it has been turned off.

Broadband

A fast, permanently connected internet connection such as ADSL or cable internet.

Browser

A program used to view and interact with websites.

Burn

To write data onto a CD, DVD or Blu-ray disk.
