A

Address bar

An area of a browser into which internet addresses can be typed.

ALISON

The online learning package used for application/software training at ITeC.

Anti-virus

Sorftware that protects against and removes PC viruses.

App

A small program designed to run on a phone or computer.

Application of Number

(Abbreviated to AoN) The Application of Number Essential Skills qualification. This is one of the portfolio-based qualifications you may work towards at ITeC. It is assessed electronically on the ePortfolio and will require you to do things like:
  • Plan a project using number
  • Research the information online
  • Carry out calcuations
  • Check them by hand and in a spreadsheet
  • Present your results

A second copy of valued files, kept incase the originals are damaged.

Basic Skills

Literacy and Numeracy. (We don't like to call them Maths and English!)

This is a general term for your level of reading and writing. Workshops take place regularly if you want to improve. You could also progress onto the Essential Skills qualifications if you wanted a certificate in these skills.

Blog

A blog is an abbreviation of "web log" and originally they started out as a sort of online diary. Nowadays they are used for much more and many businesses use them to communicate with their customers.

You will use blogs for many purposes while at ITeC while at ITeC

Later in the course you will probably also create a blog of your own as part of your ICT Essential Skills project.

Blu-ray

A type of optical disk used to store up to 50GB of files.
