Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Use tables and charts

  • Apply and create styles to a document

  • Create and modify templates

  • Use the mail merge facility

  • Create, edit and delete macros

  • Format a document using the newspaper column layout

Prerequisites

Before the course, you need to be familiar with the Windows operating system, preferably Windows 2000 Professional or higher.

You should have completed the Word Introduction course or have an equivalent level of knowledge.

Outline

Tables And Charts

  • Converting tabbed text to a table and using features to enhance the table

  • Creating a table by using the drawing tools and entering data

  • Manipulating data in tables by using calculations

  • Creating charts by using the Microsoft Graph Chart

  • Importing a worksheet into a table

Introduction To Styles

  • Applying and repeating Word's standard styles

  • Creating new styles and styles from existing text

  • Redefining and deleting styles

  • Using the Outline feature

Introduction To Templates

  • Creating documents by viewing and using templates

  • Examining and modifying the Normal template

  • Creating a document by using the Template Wizard

Introduction To Merging

  • Using the Mail Merge Helper to create data

  • Adding merge fields to the main document

  • Merging the data by using the Merge toolbar

Introduction To Macros

  • Creating macros and assigning macros to a custom toolbar

  • Editing a macro by using Visual Basic for Applications and testing

  • Deleting macros and resetting the toolbar by using menus

Newspaper Columns

  • Formatting text into newspaper columns

  • Adding graphics to the column text by using Microsoft Clip Gallery 5.0

  • Inserting section breaks to modify a document's appearance

  • Using the Sort facility
