Swansea ITeC was originally established
in October 1984, with the help of sponsors West Glamorgan County Council,
3M (UK) Limited and Swansea City Council. The ITeC was initially set
up with the prime purpose of training school leavers in Information
Technology skills i.e. Micro-Electronics, Computer Programming and
modern Office Technology. Since those early days the ITeC has moved
from strength to strength, expanding both our client base and the
range of services and courses we provide.
Development
In 1990 we extended our Government contracts
by adding full-time Unemployed Adult Training to our training portfolio,
which has grown
to its current level now providing I.T training for 40 unemployed
adults and 50 school leavers each year.
Well over 1500 Youth and Adult trainees in Wales
have benefited from ITeC computer training since the inception 18
years
ago. Many move into Further
or Higher Education when they leave the ITeC, some start their own
businesses, with the majority taking full-time employment.
Our clients
In addition to Government training, the ITeC
has expanded into the private and commercial business sector. We
now provide equipment, installation, support and training
for
local
companies ranging from sole traders to multi-national organisations
such as 3M, Alcoa, Alberto Culver, Signode, McAlpine and the National
Rivers Authority. We have also forged strong links with the local
authorities and many primary and secondary schools in South Wales.
Our Staff
There are 10 Staff members at the ITeC,
which includes 2 trainers, both of whom contribute to the ITeC’s
aim of providing a centre of excellence.
The future
On April 1st 1996, Swansea ITeC became a Limited Company, since which
time its activities and scope have continued to develop in pace with
changes in the community it serves.
Swansea ITeC now offers courses in all Microsoft Office products
and is a test centre for the ECDL (European Computer Driving License)
qualification.
